If you are like me, you have been waiting all year for a new RuPaul's Drag Race. Well, kiddos we finally got it in a 2 hr premiere that was worth most of the wait (we had All Stars to hold us over.). The show has a new main stage, but still the familiar work room that we have all come to love. The show does not stop on witty puns and sly shade from the contestants and judges, but every now and then there are heart warming moments. I simply will give a quick summary of the episode and then get straight into the Queens of this season so I can give me two giggles and press on.
RuPaul's Drag Race Season 5 opens with all 14 Queens stepping into the work room giving there quick intros and sizing each other up. You can almost tell right off the bat who is going home first(I did!!!!). But, the girls this season seem very talanted. This season is actually giving more "realness" then most of the other seasons of Drag Race(not saying all the other girls were not). By "realness", I mean the illusion that their drag is not clock-able to a straight man(at night with good lighting) and are feminine to the T. This season brings it with girls such as Jade Jolie and Vivienne Pinay. They give straight woman when they come it in drag(especially Vivienne's runway look, snaps!). I will say though that Detox look is phenomenal(work has been done to that mug) and her drag is definitely elevated above other contestants. Roxxy Andrews, Lineysha Sparx and Jinx Monsoon are also other stand outs. Other contestants include Monica Beverly Hillz, Alaska, Ivy Winters, CoCo Montrese, Alyssa Edwards, Honey Mahogany(adore), Serena Cha Cha(blah) and Penny Tration.
The first challenge involves them getting into a tank of water and giving their best pose. Many failed, but Detox won the challenge. After this, the girls were promised a shopping spree out in Beverly Hills where they met up with Camille Grammer (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills). The girls did not get to shop with Camille, but they did get to rummage through garbage in the back of the store(LOL). That was the runway challenge, RuPaul wanted the girls to make a outfit out of garments and trash that had been thrown away in the back of the store. I am not going to give away the show yet( I know some people don't get to watch TV till the weekend). I will say that I agree with the bottom two, but I might have picked another winner for the main stage challenge.
I'm not going to jump to hard on the queens yet, still waiting to see how some of these girls fair past the first episode. MR3
