Rupaul's Drag Race Season 6 Premiere Part1

Rupaul's Drag Race Season 6 Premiere Part1

It always feels like the longest wait every time a new season of Rupaul’s Drag Race starts, but you will all be happy to know that the show did get the green light for a season 7 and there will also be a 2nd All Stars Season (praying that they do not do teams again....it kind of hurt the show and made it feel very rushed...still team Latrilla) but i digress. We will get more Ru and I don’t think anyone is upset about that.

This season looks to be very entertaining, for the mere fact that they are having a 2 part premiere instead of just one big long one....big....long...tee hee I got childish with that one. The first part will feature the first 7 queens to arrive, will have to face off with each other before they meet the other 7 queens on the 2nd part of the premiere, which we have to wait until next Monday. So basically, all flaws will be personified and no queen is safe from their flaws. This was smart on the show's part because it also weeds out anybody who was not up to the challenge to meet the other 7 queens, before their turn is next on the chopping block. Rupaul you are such a tease for pulling apart this premiere and we love it for the sure drama of it all.

Can we get to the Queens please??? But of course, I will list the queens in order of arrival.2

We most certainly can; The first seven queens arrive and it was definitely a interesting bunch. They range from young fish realness(aka very femme and not clockable as a man) to old school butch queen up in pumps (Vivacious) who I love, but baby...as she said "I clocked the spook" lol. Mind you, this is just the first 7 queens, the other ones, based on the cast reveal, may have more tricks and better resumes then the previous ones that we see on the current first premiere. I will say that I am not going to count this first set out, because there are some clear favorites from the jump.

Intros/First Impressions of the first 7 Queens:

Adore Delano: I will admit that I was not a fan of her from the cast reveal or her runway walk for the Miu Miu fashion show that happened recently last year. But Adore is quick witted and pretty funny, and while I dont really care that she was on American Idol, she did make it to the top 13 and that definitely is a feat in itself. Now, she is clearly not a polished queen, but gives a great look and I feel could possibly go far depending on how well she can hold up against some seasoned vets. In short, it will be her confidence that either will lift her or kill her and this first episode shows that. Also...and this not throwing any shade, but her humor gives me Willam...but less polished version of Willam(not the same budget).

Ben De La Creme: Umm...round two of Jinkx Monsoon anyone? Yes, she is definitely going to be one of my favorites. The energy, the look and the humor is all on point and not a joke is missed. She has her look together and is definitely polished. Ben gives you a 50's housewife realness with a splash of I love Lucy, if she was a pill popper and was aware of all things naughty. Ben is very aware of his character and does not lose focus in his drag, but what I like about him most is he seems very down to earth out of drag and a normal person. Bravo, Rupaul for putting this queen on this season and I will go ahead and put her in my top 5.

Gia Gunn: Fish....Fish....Fish...Fish Market!! This queen is straight woman. Ladies, please don’t get mad at this one, cause she is not clockable at all!!! Until she takes the dress off, but Gia Gunn is face for days! I seriously was enamored by her look and the excellent make up done. However, the personality needs a tune up. Every now and then i live for Gia and her reads towards the other queens. But sometimes, it comes off as annoying, how she responds to others and very obnoxious. But, if Gia can hold her attitude together and show some more personality than just the look, she is definitely a front runner.

Laganja Estranja: "C’mon season six, let’s get sickening" and commence death drop! Legs for days, this queen has ALOT of energy...a little too much energy and a lot of overdone sayings that we have all heard in our club days or from the overly feminine guy who works at the caller center and answers the phone as Melissa. But, I see a lot coming from her and I do not think the first episode was really her marker, she did win the first challenge, but had not too much love on the runway. I place her in and out of the top 5 because I want to see more from her.

April Carrion: Gives Gia Gunn a run for her money on all accounts. This is the first time, AND NO OFFENSE, but this is the first time I have been able to fully understand a queen from Puerto Rico, the language barrier has always been a problem. Even though, I thought Jessica Wild and Yara Sofia were just fine in my opinion, but I do not think the judges will be able to pick on her this season. Her look also plays well into her overall rating. I think...possibly...maybe we will have a winner from Puerto Rico this year, but April is going to have to bring the heat and based off the runway look and the challenge, she is cooking in the kitchen honey. But we need to work on the hair, because that boy fade in the back needs some cover up, The look has to be complete in order for it to stand. But April is definitely in my top 5 with Ben.

Kelly Mantle: Blah.....that’s all I got from her. Sorry, I won’t be lazy for Kelly Mantle, but after she gave a read towards Willam and any other queen that posted their resume, I was over it. Kelly definitely has character and some wit, but her style seems very...dated. Unlike Ben, hers seems more washed down then pushed up, I am sure she is a pretty fierce queen, but from this episode I did not get any of that.

Vivacious: Club kid realness, New York Ballroom scene, Paris is Burning realness....Vivacious is definitely a character and knows her style of living art. I will say that I do believe this queen will have an early exit, based on her challenge and runway this first episode, because it is not as polished, but it is definitely a theme. I would like to see more from her and would love to see her move farther along in the competition. "Mother has arrived" was a great quote for her arrival, but what will be the quote for her dismissal.

Onto the episode itself:
As listed above the girls step into the workroom for their first day of the competition. Adore Delano steps in with this latex red dress and bluish green hair(cannot think of the name of the color) but definitely a little wobbly and not polished but the face was together. Ben De La Creme follows with her 50's ensemble look, as if she was going to a bake sale, but had high energy and her character was put together. Gia Gunn then makes her grand entrance with a...hula hoop handle for a purse. No I am not exaggerating, but I have to say I was living for the look. Laganja then makes her death drop of an appearance in a plaid ensemble that was cute, but not the best she had in her closet. But again, made an entrance that will stick for all the seasons before and to come. Kelly Mantle walks in like a lost giraffe and tries to throw shade by saying she needs to put her glasses back on, but trust the other queens were doing the same (Gia clocked her too quick.) Then Vivacious appears with her, out of space...notice I didn’t say outer space look with a head on top of her head that she calls Ornaycia...needless to say her face was covered by a vail attached to her jacket, but the zipper was stuck so the intro was a bust. Mother has definitely arrived.

The queens wait for the remaining seven to show up, but next thing you know the She Mail alert is going off and Adore Delano is falling down. After a quick announcement, Rupaul, The queen of hearts herself comes in with another beautiful flashy suit. I swear, Rupaul has some of the freshest suits on television. And tells the girls that they have not one but two premieres and will meet the remaining seven later on, but in first episode fashion they have a photo shoot as the first challenge. This photo shoot was your typical jump into a pool of foam and look fierce while falling challenge. Laganja wins the challenge, as she should with her dancer legs, and Gia, Kelly and Vivacious fall flat. I had a lol moment, when Gia said "Did I do Good?" and blinked like i know it was everything. Too funny. Once this is done, Rupaul then announces their runway challenge is to create a high fashion looked based on Television Shows with materials given in a box and will have an elmination tonight. Based off of that whoever goes home doesn’t get to meet the other queens till the reunion. Pressure is on right? So since Laganja won the challenge she got to pick the television shows for everybody. She picks Dancing with the Stars, she chose Keeping up with the Kardashians for Gia Gunn, Downton Abbey for Kelly Mantle, Game of Thrones for Vivacious, Duck Dynasty for April Carrion, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo for Adore Delano and Golden Girls for Ben De La Creme. April and Adore hate what they got for their television shows and Adore felt like Laganja shaded her for giving her that show. She is also mentions when they meet that they started drag together around the same time and our friends, but again this is a competition.

Onto the Runway:

The set has definitely had a update and is much more grand from previous seasons and Rupaul looks more snatched than ever. I really have to give my props to Rupaul, literally FLAWLESS. Adam Lambert is the guest judge and Mike Ruiz (gorgeous) is also on tche panel with the usual Santino Rice and Michelle Visage, The queens stomped the runway and w/ith all the looks to show April Carrion turned Duck Dynasty out and was very happy she pulled the look off even though she  showed her butch boy cut lining in the back, Ben De La Creme pulled out the stunts with her Golden Girls look and even had cheesecake in hand for a bite. Fabulous. Vivacious and Kelly Mantle looked the fool and for seasoned queens I couldn't grasp around the mess they showed on the runway. I understood what Kelly was trying to do, but it looked like bacon. Why the hell&a o was going on with Laganja's walk and q&a with her "yes mama" responses? Adore was screwed from the jump, after stating that she glued her dress onto the mannequin, but Gia Gunn basically came out with a bathing suit with tassels on and booties...a Kardashian look for real. Ben De La Creme wins the challenge and its Kelly Mantle and Vivacious in the bottom 2. Express Yourself by Madonna starts playing and Vivacious pretty much eats up the song and the movements, Kelly was just there shaking that awful ass wig.

If you were watching live, they gave a preview to the other 7 queens coming? I have to say Bianca Del Rio had me laughing everytime a new queen came in. She reads the house down. Her comment towards Trinity and Magnolia Crawford had me crying. Milk looks amazing, his look is where I want Vivacious to be, but they are a from a diffferent time. Darienne Lake was pure everything, another funny queen who is one to watch. Trinity was pretty but the teeth.....yeesh. Magnolia Crawford......nose. Thats all I will say about that one.

I will leave Untucked for you to watch tonight, but you most certainly know shade was thrown by the barrels. I will be posting the video to the YouTube channel later tomorrow. Stay tuned for more reviews and rants on Rupauls Drag Race airs Mondays at 9/8c and be sure to look for my Scandal Review this Thursday as well. As always loves thanks for reading and push on through.
