Top Chef Texas is turning out to be another good season for this show on Bravo. Maybe it's because I am a fan of cooking myself, but I have to always catch this show Wednesday night. Plus, its always nice to be educated on certain styles of cooking you may have not known too much about. Here is a brief summary and some of my opinions on what went down on last night's episode.
This episode started out with mostly everyone being okay with the decision of Heather leaving the competition. I personally was happy. I just did not take to her negative energy and her false positive energy she tried to display at all the wrong times. With that out of the way, they then had to take on a interesting quick fire challenge. The chefs had to create a dish that was supposed to illustrate modernist cuisine. The judge for that challenge was Nathan Myhrvoid who is the author of the book Modernist Cuisine. So, pretty much he would be the only one fit to tell them if they executed it right or not. After that quickfire challenge, the elimination round was for them to create BBQ cuisine. I was thinking they would have to do something on the scale of the quick fire challenge, but one extreme to another is fine with me too. There was health issues with one of the contestant's and others ran into road blocks, but in the end someone had to go home.
When Sarah had heat exhaustion, I was concerned for her as was her team. Then, she came back in at a certain point when the judges were just coming over for the review. She then made a comment about putting her chicken first and having her just do that piece. I can understand Edwards frustration for her doing that and coming back in at the last minute. She then, once the judges left, went to go sit down because she said she was feeling hot again. I would have thought she only did that, just to show face and make herself not look too weak, in case her team was on the chopping block. If your sick and exhausted sit down and don't come back till next challenge.
I did not agree with who they sent home this week. The judges always seem to pick the most random people to send home at times and I agree less then half of the time. They also came across much harsher at the judges table, then they did when they were reviewing the food at the dining table. Oh well, here is some key points and stats as to who won the quick fire challenge, who won elimination round and who went home.
Quick Fire Challenge - Top 3: Ty, Sarah and Chris J.
Bottom 3: Grayson, Paul and Beverly
Winner - Ty
Elimination Challenge - Teams: Blue: Grayson, Paul and Lindsay
White: Beverely, Chris C. and Chris J.
Red: Edward, Ty and Sarah
Winner: Blue Team
Loser: Chris C.
